Turning a new leaf in 2023

I’m looking forward to 2023. I’m hoping to make this years mark with a bark or two. Many long walks, warmer weather, shopping for craft supplies and news of my favorite supplies.

Making changes along the way and completing some mile stones. Finding opportunities where ever they may be. My hope for this year is make more art. Expand my skills and move toward advanced art supplies.

My new schedule consists of squeezing in as much drawing, painting, paper crafts, reading and so much more in every minute available. With this said I have come across many subjects to draw inspiration from. It’s amazing what one can see just by taking a walk around the block.

Below is a leaf pin wheel. There are two layers and when the wind blows they move in opposite directions from each other. I found it rather amusing and it stuck in my head. Just because it stuck in my head I decided I had better draw it as best I can. It’s a crude sketch and it would have been easier if I had taken a photo of it.

My next subject has been in my head for weeks. I tried to sketch it once before but couldn’t quite get the cones in the right shape and size I wanted. I did start with the cones first and the fence is an after effect. These cones are unusual to me as the grow on a vine and they have all dried. It amused me as to the fact they have dried and not one fell off to the ground. There are hundreds of these cones on vines along a 4 foot fence.

The space at the end of my printer paper has been calling for something more. The shapes are visible already to the blank section. Taking each section and carefully execute each mark as if it were my last. Shading lightly to canvas to darker shades. Using a four legged moving target can make any drawing a challenge. A photo would be a better subject piece, however lighting the subject is not ideal. I’m sure he would protest to sitting for a photo op. He’s always on a continuous move as we move about the day.

Keeping in mind that these are only sketches these are just to not only keep me busy but to also amuse my family member. I don’t do sketches of dogs. This sketch is my first. I hope you enjoy this silly face as “Bud” shows when he’s amused about “My cooking”! He has missed the home cooked meals from his former parents!

I hope that your new year brings you much happiness, prosperity, and inspiration.
